Many of us need to wear smart shoes for work, and a classic court shoe style is always chic. You can wear a simple court (or pump if you speak American English) with trousers, a skirt, or a dress. When you’re shopping for this style, it’s important to look out for well balanced court shoes.

That’s what happens if you don’t select well balanced court shoes (I don’t mean the dreadful socks!).

So how do you tell whether a heel will help you to balance? Here’s one tried and tested way:

When you’re shopping for high heeled shoes, boots or sandals, you need to look at how close the heel is to the back of the shoe. If the heel runs straight down from the back of the shoe, you’re more likely to wobble when walking (or standing!). When the heel is placed further forward, it should support your weight better. This is because it’s under your centre of gravity. So how do you find well balanced court shoes? Look for styles where the heels are positioned closer to the ball of your foot, like the diagram above.
